Spring into the Seed Library

It’s time to get your hands dirty! The Seed Library has sprouted up again just in time for the planting season. Start your gardening project from the ground up with many varieties of vegetables, herbs and flowers perfect for all skill levels. It doesn’t matter if you’re a first-time or master gardener, all you need is your library card. And don’t forget to send us pictures of your a-maize-ing garden to be eligible to win a $50 Amazon gift card.

 How long is the seed library available?

Seeds are available, while supplies last, beginning March 1, 2022, till June 30, 2022.

What kinds of seeds?

With over 8,000 packets of seeds including 63 assortments of vegetables, 11 types of herbs and 41 varieties of flowers there is something for everyone.

Any new varieties of seed this year?

You bet there are! For the first time, we have yard-long beans, celery and yellow pear cherry tomatoes in addition to an even larger assortment of wildflowers perfect for pollinators such as birds, bats, bees, butterflies and beetles.

How many can I check out?

Use your library card to check out up to five seed packets.

Where can I get them?

At the Clever, Nixa, Ozark and Sparta community branch locations.

Where did they come from?

Seeds were purchased from Hart Seed Company and Urban Farmer.

How can I be entered into the $50 Amazon gift card drawing?

It’s a snap. Send us pictures of your garden before June 30, 2022, to be eligible. Email us at programs@christiancountylibrary.org

What if I need help starting my garden?

Lettuce help! The library has many gardening how-to books, e-books, DVDs and programs available. Search the catalog for print and digital materials and find the program that’s right on the library event calendar.

What type of gardening events will be offered?

All types for all ages from seed starting to houseplant propagation and everything in between including events led by the Christian County Master Gardeners.

Who are the Christian County Master Gardeners?

A group for novice and experienced gardeners to learn and share knowledge with others. As representatives of MU Extension, the Christian County Master Gardeners are involved in a variety of activities that benefit the community, families and individuals while developing horticultural interests.

The seed library is another way the Christian County library strives to provide services, events and resources to help our community learn and grow. We can’t wait to see everybody’s progress this growing season. We are rooting for you!
