UPDATE June 24, 2025
The performance testing phase of the upgraded MOBIUS system concluded on Friday, June 13, 2025. Based on the additional user data collected, we have determined that it’s in the library’s best interest to transition to a new interlibrary loan system.
What does that mean for right now?
- MOBIUS borrowing and lending have halted.
- Pending MOBIUS requests will still be fulfilled, and patrons will receive those materials.
- If you currently have MOBIUS materials, please continue to enjoy and return them by the due date, as renewals are not available.
To enhance the process for requesting materials from other libraries, we have contracted and are implementing a new system called Tipasa, which builds upon and complements WorldCat.
What will the new system look like?
- It will use the current WorldCat interface.
- Provides the ability to track the progress of requests.
- Allows for online renewals.
- You will gain access to a more extensive selection of materials than what MOBIUS offered.
Providing access to materials is our primary goal, and this switch will enable us to serve you better. Since 2011, MOBIUS has played a crucial role in our interlibrary loan process. While we are moving to new software, we will continue to monitor MOBIUS for potential reconsideration after key functionalities and developments are completed.

For the next few weeks, we are conducting performance testing for the updated MOBIUS software to guarantee functionality for both staff and patrons. This means that patrons with an active library card are able to request and receive items. During this testing phase, the Interlibrary Loan staff wants to know about any issues with the new system. Where can I access MOBIUS?
Similar to where it was before the upgrade, on the catalog search page: coolcat.org/search~S4
How many items can be requested?
Each library card can have up to 10 active requests at a time.
What are the lending dates?
Books and Audiobooks: 40 days
DVDs, Blu-ray and CDs: 10 days
Can materials be renewed?
Not at this time.
How many items can be requested?
Mixture of 75 academic, special and public libraries.
Are we getting close to bringing MOBIUS back?
This test will help us assess whether the MOBIUS software and system upgrades are functioning properly.

Yes.

We know that disruption to services is frustrating. This upgrade is an exciting step forward, as it will pave the way for expanded collaboration and access to resources, allowing other libraries nationwide to join our network. We are choosing to delay resuming MOBIUS services until the new software is fully developed and ensure that staff can be trained and allow any glitches to be worked out before implementation. In the meantime, we will continue to provide ILL (Interlibrary loan) services for patrons. Here’s what you need to know:
Why is MOBIUS being upgraded, and how does it affect me?
The upgrade is to accommodate future expansion and improve the overall library experience. During this period, MOBIUS services will be down.
How long will it be down?
The process began on April 18, 2024, and will be restored as soon as the required upgrade and developments are completed.
Will the downtime affect my current holds or requests?
All holds that have not been filled by April 18 will automatically be transferred to the Interlibrary Loan (ILL) system by our staff. It may take a little longer to receive the requested items.
Will the outage impact the library’s catalog?
Not at all. You can still browse the library’s catalog, COOLcat, and explore the collection of over 60,000 physical items.
What if the materials I want aren’t in COOLcat?
If the material you need is not available in our collection, simply request those via ILL (Interlibrary Loan) using WorldCat. To begin:
1. Create an account in WorldCat
2. Search for an item
3. Select an item to borrow with “Request Through Interlibrary Loan”
4. Submit request form
5. ILL team will send a notification if the item is unavailable
How many items can I request from WorldCat?
Each library card can request up to 20 items per month and resets on the first day of each month.

What is the expected delivery time for materials requested through Interlibrary Loan?
Delivery times for Interlibrary Loan requests may vary depending on item availability, the procedures of lending libraries, and the fact that some ILL materials are delivered through the U.S. Postal Service. We’ll strive to expedite the process and get your materials to you as quickly as possible.
How do I check the status of my current request or see how many requests I’ve submitted?

How do I renew an item?
Complete the Renewal Request form and ILL staff will submit a renewal request to the lending library. You will be notified of the outcome.
Other options are using the “Renew Interlibrary Loan” option on the left-hand side of the catalog page in CoolCat or in WorldCat by opening the “Resources” dropdown menu in the banner and selecting “Request a renewal.”
