Proposed Ozark Improvements

On August 8th, 2017, Christian County voters will decide whether to approve a renewal of the library’s 20 cent levy. If passed, the increased revenue would fund additional branches. Go back to the election information page for more information on other branches and the proposed tax levy, or read on to learn more about the proposed improvements to the existing branch in Ozark.

The Ozark Branch is located at 1005 N. 4th Ave. in Ozark, overlooking the Finley River Park. The land on which the building sits was donated in part by Riverside Inn owner Howard Garrison. After the library’s last tax levy increase, the 20 cent rate approved by voters in 1971, construction began on the existing building, which opened in 1972. In January 1986, an additional wing was added that includes the current meeting room, public restroom, and children’s area. The building today is approximately 10,000 square feet and home to all of the library’s administration, technical services, outreach and business offices.

If voter’s approve the renewal of the 20 cent levy, the library will be able to make significant improvements to the existing building, with some non-public departments moving to an offsite location. Some features this will allow for include: additional space for the collection, a consolidated public computer area, an ADA compliant front entryway, a storytime room/additional public meeting space, a drive-up service window and book drop, and a general “facelift” inside and out.
