Two October FOL Book Sales Happening

They’re back!

“We all had to adapt this past year, including the Friends of the Library,” Dave Carmichael, President of the Friends of the Library, said. “Not having book sales meant we have been sitting on a lot of inventory, including, books, audiobooks, DVDs, music and puzzles. You might say we have been busting at the seams a bit.”

The FOL Book Sales have returned. The first sale opens to the public on Wednesday, October 6, and runs through the following Saturday, October 9, at the Nixa Community Branch. Hours are 9:30 a.m. till 6:30 p.m. Wednesday – Thursday and 9:30 a.m. till 5:30 p.m. Friday—Saturday.

Friends of the Library (FOL) members are able to attend the preview sale early on Tuesday, October 5 from 4 p.m. till 6:30 p.m. Non-members can sign up for an individual or family membership at any Community Branch location before the preview sale or at the door. Individual memberships are $6 and family memberships are $10.

There is something for everyone, so you won’t want to miss these deals on adult hardcover books for $2, children’s hardcover books, CDs, DVDs and puzzles for $1 and all paperback books for 50¢. For the greatest bargains, attend bag day on Saturday. Fill up an entire grocery bag for one price of $3. Cash or checks will be accepted.

The second sale in October is happening at the Sparta Community Branch Friday and Saturday, October 22-23 from 10 a.m. till 4 p.m. Pricing is the same, but there will not be a bag day on Saturday, October 23.

“Now is a good time to stock up on reading materials for these fall and winter seasons and a great way to support our library,” Carmichael said. “All the money generated from the book sales goes right back into the community.

The FOL is probably best known for its book sales. Hosting book sales is the main way the group raises money to support library projects and services that benefit the community, especially children. Over the years the FOL has funded major contributions to providing warm and inviting children’s areas in the library, such as new picture book bins in all four locations. Every annual membership and book sale purchase supports these projects that make a huge difference.

Whether you want to volunteer at Friends of the Library events, sort book donations or become a supporting member, anything helps. For more information visit the FOL’s page.
