Reading With Pride

Reading books written by culturally diverse authors allows for a deeper understanding of unique challenges and obstacles some may endure as well as the representation of different life experiences and sexual identities such as LGBTQ+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, trans, queer/questioning).

Stories of other people’s lives have the ability to inspire. Expanding our reading diet allows for the discovery of new stories. And exposure to new ideas and concepts is the foundation for a deeper comprehension of viewpoints and understanding- which is something to take pride in.

Setting aside days and months to celebrate specific communities and events is a great starting point for discussion about inclusivity. But, what about the rest of the year? In order to keep these conversations going, consider one of the many titles from these curated booklists that highlight diverse authors, characters, history, and experiences.

These lists will continually be updated with new materials. If we missed any let us know!
