The Christian County Library summer reading program runs May 15-July 31 this year, with registration opening May 1 at http://christiancountylibrary.beanstack.org. The program gives parents an easy way to make reading a fun summer activity and help children and teens maintain or even improve their reading level during the break from school. The theme this year is “Build a Better World,” and we’ll have lots of resources and ideas to help you do just that. Here’s how it works for each age group:
Babies (0 – 2 Years)
Level 1: Read to your baby two hours and earn a free board book.
Level 2: Read to your baby two more hours and earn another free book plus an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing
Activity Badge: Complete 10 activities to earn an additional entry into the Grand Prize Drawing.
Grand Prize: Basket filled with toys and book, plus gift cards for a parents night out
Children (Pre-K – 5th Grade)
Level 1: Read and record five hours and earn a coupon book.
Level 2: Read and record five more hours and earn a free book plus an entry into the Grand Prize Drawing.
Eager Reader: After your first ten hours, each additional hour recorded (up to ten more) earns a ticket to enter into the prize basket of your choice. View the baskets at the library.

The library has partnered with a company called Beanstack this year, so families can register and participate in the program online through our summer reading program website at http://christiancountylibrary.beanstack.org. All reading can be reported right through this website. Readers earn online badges as they make progress, and are notified when they complete a level and it’s time to collect their prize at the library. Beanstack also helps match readers with books they’ll like that are available through the Christian County Library, so it’s simple for readers to find their next book. Paper forms will be available in the library for those who prefer not to participate online.
Summer at the library also means a large variety classes, performances, and programs every week for children, teens, and adults, not just in the library, but across the county. Check out our events calendar to see all programs, or browse our summer newsletter for more details. Last year, the library’s meeting room proved too small to hold all attendees to some children’s programs, so this summer, some children’s events will be at the Ozark R-VI Career Center, across from the Kum & Go in Ozark, to accommodate larger crowds. There are also children’s events scheduled at the Nixa X Center and the Clever Public Library.
